Visual Studio 2013 – Must Know Keyboard Shortcuts

Not much changed since Visual Studio 2012 at a first glance, but VS2013 has some small tweaks like peek definition, enhanced scroll bar and a better navigate to ( ctrl + , ) that make it worthwhile.

Coding & Navigation

  • ctrl + k, ctrl + d – Format Document
  • ctrl + . – Show Smart Tag (Comes in handy with refactoring/renaming)
  • f12 - Go to definition
  • alt + f12 - Peek definition
  • ctrl + alt + home - Promote peek definition to new window
  • ctrl + k, ctrl + c - Comment Code Block
  • ctrl + k, ctrl + u – Uncomment Code Block
  • ctrl + shift + f – Find in All Files
  • ctrl + shift + h – Replace in All Files
  • ctrl + –  – Navigate Backward
  • ctrl + shift + – - Navigate Forward
  • ctrl + g – Go to line
  • ctrl + tab – Window Navigation
  • ctrl + , – Navigate to 
  • ctrl + ; - Search Solution Explorer 
  • ctrl + q - Quick Launch 
  • ctrl + alt + l – Solution Explorer
  • esc - Switch back to document window
  • ctrl + f6 - Next document window
  • ctrl + alt + down – Show open files
  • ctrl + f4 – Close current window
  • alt + shortcutkey - Navigate menu

Debugging

  • f9 – Toggle breakpoint
  • ctrl + shift + f9 – Delete all breakpoints
  • f5 - Start debugging
  • ctrl + shift + f5 – Restart debugging
  • shift + f5  – Stop debugging
  • f10 – Step over
  • f11 – Step into
  • shift + f11 - Step out
  • ctrl + f10 – Run to cursor
  • ctrl + alt + i – Immediate Window
